Air Fryer Lemon Chicken – Juicy & Zesty in 15 Minutes

Air fryer lemon chicken became my go-to when I wanted something fresh and flavorful without overcomplicating dinner. My first attempt turned out bland and slightly dry, which was frustrating because lemon should really shine. After testing this three ways, I discovered that layering lemon juice with a bit of zest made the flavor pop. Then I cracked the code by cooking at a slightly higher temperature for caramelized edges, and now it comes out juicy, bright, and perfectly balanced every time.

  • Air Fryer (6-quart recommended)
  • Mixing bowl
  • Tongs
  • Zester (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, lemon zest, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  • Add chicken and coat evenly with the marinade.
  • Let marinate for at least 10 minutes (or up to 2 hours for stronger flavor).
  • Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3 minutes.
  • Place chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  • Cook at 380°F (193°C) for 8 minutes.
  • Flip the chicken using tongs.
  • Cook for another 4–7 minutes until lightly golden and cooked through.
  • Ensure internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • Remove and rest for 3 minutes before serving.

Notes

Air fryer models vary, so check at the 10-minute mark to avoid overcooking. Avoid overcrowding—cook in batches if needed. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 3–4 minutes. You can swap oregano for thyme or add a touch of honey for a sweet lemon glaze.
