Air Fryer Chicken Fries – Crispy & Kid-Friendly in 10 Minutes

Air fryer chicken fries quickly became my go-to after too many frozen versions turned out unevenly cooked or bland. I wanted that crispy outside with juicy chicken inside, without deep frying. My first batch came out dry and not nearly crunchy enough. After testing this three ways, I discovered that a thinner cut and double coating made all the difference. Then I cracked the code with the right temperature and spacing, and now they come out perfectly crispy and golden every time.

Equipment

  • Air Fryer (6-quart recommended)
  • Mixing bowls
  • Tongs

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds chicken breast cut into thin strips
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs panko preferred
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Oil spray

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3 minutes.
  • In one bowl, add flour.
  • In a second bowl, add beaten eggs.
  • In a third bowl, mix breadcrumbs with paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Coat each chicken strip in flour.
  • Dip into the egg mixture.
  • Coat evenly with seasoned breadcrumbs.
  • Lightly spray coated chicken with oil.
  • Place chicken strips in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  • Cook at 380°F (193°C) for 5 minutes.
  • Flip each strip using tongs.
  • Cook for another 3–5 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  • Ensure internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • Remove and rest for 2 minutes before serving.

Notes

Air fryer models vary, so check at the 7-minute mark to avoid overcooking. Avoid overcrowding—cook in batches for even crispiness. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat at 375°F (190°C) for 3–4 minutes to bring back the crunch. You can swap breadcrumbs for crushed cornflakes for extra crispiness or use chicken tenders for convenience.
