Air Fryer Baked Pears – Soft & Caramelized in 12 Minutes

Air fryer baked pears were one of those recipes I thought would be effortless, until my first batch turned out dry on top and firm in the center. I was craving that soft, spoonable texture with lightly caramelized edges. After testing this three ways, I discovered that a touch of moisture and the right temperature made all the difference. Then I cracked the code with a simple butter and sugar combo. Now they come out tender, warm, and perfectly sweet every time.

Equipment

  • Air fryer (5–6 quart recommended)
  • Small baking dish or foil tray
  • Spoon

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe but firm pears halved and cored
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter melted
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp chopped walnuts optional
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup optional

Instructions

  • Slice pears in half and remove cores carefully.
  • Brush cut sides with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  • Place pears cut-side up in an air fryer-safe dish.
  • In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Sprinkle mixture evenly over pears.
  • Drizzle melted butter over the top.
  • Preheat air fryer to 350°F (177°C).
  • Place dish in air fryer basket.
  • Cook for 10 minutes until pears begin to soften.
  • Continue cooking for 2–3 minutes until edges are lightly caramelized.
  • Check tenderness with a fork—pear should be soft but not mushy.
  • Drizzle with honey or maple syrup and add walnuts before serving if desired.

Notes

  • Air fryer models vary, so check pears early for doneness.
  • Use firm pears like Bosc or Anjou for best texture.
  • Add a splash of water in the dish if pears seem to dry out.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat at 320°F (160°C) for 3–4 minutes until warm.
  • Serve with yogurt, ice cream, or granola for different variations.
